Visual Influences on Auditory Function
Speech and music encoding is often assumed to be primarily an auditory process. However, observation of a speaker's facial cues modifies the perception of speech and viewing musical performance affects the perception of music. By studying visual influences on neural responses to speech and music we are able to uncover the mechanisms of multisensory interaction in natural perception. This line of research focuses on cortical and subcortical responses to audiovisual stimuli in normal, learning impaired populations, and musicians.
