Shawn Douglass is an actor, director and adapter. He is an Artistic Associate with Remy Bumppo Theatre Company where he received an After Dark award for his portrayal of John Tanner in Man and Superman, and a Joseph Jefferson nomination playing Adolphus Cusins in Major Barbara. Douglass has also appeared with such Chicago companies as Northlight Theatre, Court Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, Writers’ Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare. His directing credits include The Philadelphia Story and Public Enemy (Remy Bumppo); Romeo and Juliet and Love’s Labour’s Lost (Montana Shakespeare in the Parks); and Julius Caesar and The Diary of Anne Frank (Theatre at the Center, Indiana).
Douglass founded Remy Bumppo’s thinkTank, an annual project presenting theatrical pieces that address pressing social topics such as immigration and national security. Douglass’ adaptation of immigrant oral histories, An Immigrant Class, was the centerpiece of the first edition of thinkTank. His adaptation of Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court was read at the 2005 Chicago Humanities Festival. He is a member of Actor’s Equity Association.
