Todd Rosenthal’s regional theater design credits include: Transformations, Schoolgirl Figure, A Christmas Carol (annually), The Play About the Baby, Albee Fest, The Story, Mamet Fest, and Clean House (nominated by Joseph Jefferson Committee for best set design) for The Goodman Theatre; The Viewing Room, Three Days of Rain, The Weir (Joseph Jefferson Award Nomination), Wedding Band , We All Went Down to Amsterdam, Man from Nebraska, I Never Sang for my Father, Steppenwolf's 25th Anniversary Celebration hosted by Bill Murray, Last of the Boys, Intimate Apparel, The Unmentionables, Betrayal, August: Osage County (Winner, Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Set design) for the Steppenwolf Theatre Company (Man from Nebraska was rated by Time magazine as one of the top ten productions in the country for 2003); Escape from Happiness, Lonesome West, Suburban Motel, The Goat, and King Lear for Milwaukee Repertory Theatre; Death and the Maiden for Centerstage in Baltimore; Our Lady of 121st Street for the Alley Theatre in Houston; The Infidel, and The Goat and Take me Out (nominated for Barrymore Award for best set design) for The Philadelphia Theatre Company; Over the Tavern and Ctrl Alt Delete for San Jose Repertory Theatre; Proof, Spinning into Butter, Shadowlands, Beast on the Moon, How I Learned to Drive, Crimes of the Heart, The Guardsman, False Creeds, and most recently Doubt for the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta; Clean for The Atlantic Theater in New York City, Red Light Winter for the Barrow Street Theatre in New York; Hamlet and The Unmentionables for the Yale Repertory Theatre; Ariadne, The Jewel Box, and Tales of Hoffman for Chicago Opera Theatre; Spinning into Butter, Proof and Copenhagen for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Lovers and Friends for the Lyric Opera of Chicago; and Step Right Up and Celebrate for the Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center.
Rosenthal has designed frequently for the renowned Hungarian director Laszlo Marton, and Ben Barnes, former artistic director of the Abbey Theatre and current Artistic Director of the Theatre Royal Waterford in Ireland. He also collaborates frequently with Director Anna Shapiro. He has been the resident designer for Steppenwolf's New Play's Lab and Chicago's Court Theatre, and has designed themed environments for Anheuser Busch and Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas. He was part of the U.S. contingent exhibiting work at the 2007 Prague Quadrennial in the Czech Republic.
His current projects include: Doubt for The Cincinnati Play House in the Park, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, and the Alliance Theatre, The Cook for the Goodman Theatre, Good Boys and True, and The Crucible for Steppenwolf, August: Osage County for the Imperial Theatre on Broadway, and The Big Apple Circus ’08 at Lincoln Center.
Rosenthal teaches design at Northwestern University's School of Communications, and is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, where he received the Donald M. Oenslager Scholarship for Stage Design.
