International Media Seminar (IMS) in Paris

Students with interests in media, news, and international communications are invited to join the International Media Seminar (IMS) in Paris during spring break. Sponsored by the School of Communication in cooperation with Paris's Center for the Study of International Communications and the American University of Paris, this program allows students to learn from prominent international media figures through seminars, discussions, and media visits with free time for relaxing and touring.

Arts in the City

Arts in the City is a program offered exclusively to students of the School of Communication. It gives students the opportunity to experience the best arts in Chicago for a nominal fee which includes the ticket and transportation. These events strive to showcase the talents of those connected with Northwestern University and allow students to socialize with their faculty and peers.

EPICS Connections

The EPICS Connections program brings successful alumni and friends to campus for Q&A sessions with students. The goal of the program is to get students and alumni talking about potential career paths in informal, intimate settings. EPICS Connections visitors have included:

  • Andrew Damer - Marketing Director for Broadway in Chicago
  • John S. Scheinfeld - Emmy and Grammy nominated filmmaker who is creating a documentary about the Chicago Cubs
  • Mollie Alexander Speer - Director of Development of About Face Theatre
  • Entrepreneuer's Panel, including NU alums Erica Levin and David Miller, who have launched their own businesses
  • Sonja Nordahl - National anchor for CTV Newsnet, Canada's premier all news station and business analyst
  • Catherine Gottfred - President of ASHA, founder of Leap Learning Systems
  • Betsy Steinberg - Managing Director of the Illinois Film Office
  • Brian Dickie - General Director of Chicago Opera Theatre and named by New City Chicago as one of "The Players - 50 people who really perform for Chicago."

Visiting Artists & Scholars

The EPICS Office coordinates visits and workshops from alumni and professionals. Visitors have included:

  • Actor, writer, and director John Cameron Mitchell (of Hedwig & the Angry Inch fame)
  • Zach Braff - Actor, writer, and director best known for Garden State and Scrubs
  • Adam Kantor - star of the final Broadway cast of RENT
