Post an Internship
To publicize an internship to Northwestern students, register for the database and post an opportunity at: https://communication-northwestern-csm.symplicity.com/employers/
The School of Communication Internship Program is an academic internship course for students from a variety of majors (including Communication Studies, Radio Television Film, Theatre, Performance Studies, and Communication Sciences and Disorders). The internship course is available in Los Angeles, Chicagoland, and New York City. Students can receive credit for internships anywhere in the U.S by completing the course work remotely. Northwestern students not in the School of Communication are welcome to participate in the Chicago Internship Program.
- Students intern with an organization from 8 - 32+ hours a week for 10 weeks (the length of a typical quarter). Students are eligible to receive one academic credit for each 8 hours of work per week. Four credits is the normal course load for one quarter.
- Students attend class one evening during the week. Students are evaluated based on course work that they complete for the internship. The evaluation from the internship host also contributes to their grade.
- Organizations are encouraged to provide a travel stipend or minimum wage to students.
We ask you, the employer, to provide Northwestern students with:
- Substantive work
- Training or orientation
- Regular Supervision
- Evaluation of intern's performance (we provide the evaluation form)
The internship selection process is open and competitive for students and employers. Keep in mind that students are considered by 5-8 different organizations over a 4-5 week time frame. Not all internship postings will receive resumes.
