Academics
Before you come to Northwestern, you can explore courses available to you and think about the subjects you might be interested in, but you won't sign up for classes yet. You'll enroll in your Fall quarter classes when you arrive at Northwestern, using the information and guidance you will get during Wildcat Welcome: New Student Week.
During new student week, you'll meet your adviser and get details on your major and requirements. You'll also have a chance to take advantage of the many advising resources to develop your own unique schedule. There are sessions with peer advisers - other students who have already been through what you're experiencing for the first time - and they can answer questions about classes' content, locations, and other important details. When the time comes for registration, the School of Communication has a computer lab staffed with advisers and students who are there to help guide you through the online registration system.
We have reserved spaces for you in some of the introductory courses for your major, and you'll be taking classes in a variety of subjects in departments all over Northwestern: you're guaranteed to get into enough classes, even though they may not all be your first choice. Don't worry—you'll be here for four years, and there will be plenty of opportunities to get into the courses that pique your interest.
