Professor Goodman focuses on the fundamentals of leadership and how people learn to become more effective leaders. In addition to directing Northwestern’s leadership program, he regularly coaches and advises boards of directors, CEOs and other senior leaders on leadership, risk and decision making. He has worked with over 20 colleges and universities on the development and evaluation of leadership studies programs.

Professor Goodman is currently working on a leadership assessment, an executive education course, a book and other material under the title “6 Leadership Questions.”

Over the past 20 years Professor Goodman has worked with dozens of foundations and corporations. Grantors and recent clients include the Boettcher, Coors, El Pomar, Ford, and Gates Family foundations as well as Ball Corporation, the government of Canada, the University of Colorado Board of Regents, the University of Denver, Frontier Airlines, IBM, the Leeds School of Business, New Belgium Brewing, Sun Microsystems, and TIAA-CREF.
