Costs
Transportation: Transportation is the main cost, with international airfares ranging from $700 - $1,000. However, if one plans ahead, it may be possible to find less expensive airfare. Students normally make their own airline reservations. Airfares are often better if one is gone over a Saturday night. Also, at least one day to rest and adapt to a new city is usually a good idea. Student will need to keep in mind that they must arrange ground transportation (taxi, metro, etc.) as well.
Hotel: Trip organizers have been able to find small, simple but pleasant and clean hotel rooms in Paris for about $65 per person per night, double occupancy. The program takes care of reserving these rooms and can assign roommates if that is preferred. The hotels the program has used are in a charming and safe neighborhood in the 7th arrondisement (near the Eiffel Tower, in the heart of the city). All these rooms have private baths. Most rooms are for two people, although some triplets and singles are available. The hotel rooms can be booked at the same rate for extra days before or after the seminar. Many of the programs are held at nearby American University of Paris. Participants can make independent lodging plans if they prefer—at private residences, or at more or less expensive hotels. The program will provide detailed information on traveling to and from the airport.
Seminar: Since the School of Communication helps to underwrite the program, the program fee for School of Communication students is only $150 ($200 for non-SoC students).
Additional Expenses: Ground transportation, breakfasts, some lunches and dinners, entertainment, and optional events (ranging $10-$150 each).
The total cost for Northwestern students can thus range from $1,500 - $2,000.
