Performances

Each year the Department of Performance Studies sponsors a public performance series in Northwestern's Theatre and Interpretation Center, consisting of one or two major productions, three or four performance hours featuring work directed by faculty or students, an annual Festival of One-Person Shows developed by students in the Nonfiction Studies class, a performance hour developed by students in the Performance of Black Literature class, a student-organized festival of original performance works, and three performance hours developed by students in the freshman-level introductory course. In addition, the department annually sponsors the Summer Fiction performance series as part of Northwestern's summer session.
Students wishing performance opportunities are able to audition for any productions taking place on campus, including those produced by the Performance Studies or Theatre Departments or those produced independently. Students wishing directing experience may petition to direct a departmental performance hour. Graduate students may request to teach the summer course Ensemble Performance, which culminates in the department's summer fiction production. It is also possible for students to mount productions independently in a number of venues on campus.
