Certificate in Creative Writing for the Media
Explore many genres of creative writing for the media as you hone your skills in shaping stories for the stage, screen or TV. In your second year as a student in Radio/Television/Film, Theatre, Communication Studies or Performance Studies, you are eligible to apply for acceptance into this exceptional program.
For all six quarters of your junior and senior years, you’ll be immersed in an intensive study of dramatic writing with just eleven other students. Your faculty and guest speakers include successful screenwriters, playwrights, TV writers, novelists and actors who are the creative force behind current and upcoming movie, TV and stage hits. Their insight and experience in crafting, pitching, selling and revising their work for various media will prepare you to meet the creative, professional and philosophical challenges of the life-work you've selected.
You’ll explore the structural, technical and thematic challenges of different media.
After completing the program, you’ll carry a portfolio of your work that includes at least:
- A 30-minute screenplay or video-play
- A full-length theatrical play
- A full-length screenplay
- A script for a television show
