INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FAQ
Does the program accept international students?
International students are encouraged to apply to the MSC program, though additional admission requirements apply.
What is the deadline for application for international students?
International students are required to apply to the program by May 1, 2010.
What are the additional requirements for international students?
International students are required to score a minimum total of 100 on the TOEFL exam with a score of greater than 26 on the "Speaking" section. Students may choose to submit an IELTS score in place of the TOEFL. The minimum required score for the IELTS is 7. The test must have been administered after September 1, 2007.
Are there any additional requirements or procedures for international students once they’ve been accepted to the MSC program?
If admitted, international students are required to provide documentation that one full years’ tuition (U.S. $43,476.00) and living expenses (U.S. $14,942.00) in the amount of $58,418.00 total for 2010 are available to you — either in the form of personal or family funds, financial aid or employer support — prior to beginning the program. In addition, international students must complete either the I-20 or DS-2019 visa-eligibility document. For more information please visit the "New Students" section on the International Office website.
Does the MSC program provide housing for international students?
While neither the MSC program nor the International Office provide housing for international students, the university’s Department of Graduate and Off Campus Housing serves to support graduate students seeking housing. Contact them directly to learn more about the accommodations and policies.
Can the application interview be conducted by phone?
Yes, we are happy to accommodate international students by conducting application interviews over the phone.
Can I take additional courses outside the MSC curriculum?
International students are required to enroll in three courses per quarter. Because MSC offers only two courses per quarter (the maximum number of courses a domestic student may be enrolled in each quarter), international students take one additional course per quarter — typically an independent study related to the MSC curriculum or an English proficiency course.
