SoCIT offers technical, architectural, editorial, and artistic development and direction for content included in the www.communication.northwestern.edu domain. We also manage the www.soc.northwestern.edu domain.

SoC Content Management System

The SoC content management system (CMS) stores and presents all web content for the school using a set of standard templates and styles. Request for updates and additions to the site are made to the Web Administrator. WS staff will lead you through planning and content development and perform content editing.

Web Hosting

General hosting services are offered to faculty and SoC-sanctioned student groups for web sites that support the mission of the SoC but are outside the purview of the CMS. Content owners maintain sites via ftp connections. Content owners are responsible for maintaining appropriate content on their sites that is in compliance with federal and state regulations. Scripting capabilities of the hosting server include asp3 and php4. MSSQL or MySQL are available upon request. Requests for e-commerce or third party software such as CMS, blogs, or wikis will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application Development

An application is web content that requires additional programming beyond that of general text or graphical content. This includes registration forms and various other data management tools. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the scope of a project there may be cost sharing fees associated.

You may make a requests for specific web addresses as long as that address isn't already taken. The following options are available.
