In 1937 New York, in the midst of the Great Depression and on the edge of war, Jack and Kate Jerome must think of every dollar and work hard for every meal. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Eugene bemoans another serving of liver and dreams of glory as an All-American baseball player. This coming-of-age comedy by Tony Award-winning playwright Neil Simon and directed by award-winning Northwestern faculty member Mary Poole offers a wisdom far beyond adolescence of the power of family and first loves to unite us, even amidst the most trying of times.
