How do I apply for the Screen Cultures Ma/PhD?
The Graduate School (TGS) at Northwestern requires an online application. Review the “Apply” section for more information on specific application materials.

When is the deadline to apply?
All application materials must be received by December 15th.

What supporting documents are required?
The following supporting documents are required in addition to the online application: Statement of Purpose, three letters of recommendation, official GRE results, official transcripts from all previous institutions, and a writing sample.

What is required for the writing sample?
The writing sample should highlight your interest in the field of film and media studies and should be no more than 30 pages in length.

How do I submit letters of recommendation?
All letters of recommendation are submitted through the online application by your recommenders.

Where do I send supporting documents?
All supporting documents are to be submitted with your online application.

What are your minimum GPA, GRE, and TOEFL scores for admission to the program?
The Screen Cultures program does not have minimum requirements. Applications are looked at in entirety. However, admits into the program typically have a GPA of 3.5 and above and have competitive GRE & TOEFL scores.

Is the TOEFL required? Is there a minimum score? How can the TOEFL requirement be waived for international students?
The TOEFL is required for all non-native English speaking applicants. The TOEFL requirement can be waived if you have a BA or MA from an English-speaking institution.

Is financial aid available? What about a stipend?
Students admitted to the program receive four or five years of funding, covering the full cost of tuition and providing a stipend.
